One of the things I really like about Lightwave, is Motion Blur actually works!
With a helicoptor rotor blade for example, the blade tip is moving much more
faster than near its pivot point, and Lightwave accurately shows the blurred
effect rendered in different amounts on the same object.
Well isn`t this what you would expect with motion blur? I thought so until I
tried to do the same thing in 3D Studio 3.0 , motion blur seems to be a real
hack in this package, 3DS actually calculates motion blur by you specifing how
many samples you need (max 8!), with a distance. ie 3DS will render the blade
in eight different position a set distance apart , all transparent versions
of the original blade, So to get that helicoptor rotor motion effect looks
really bad when animated! just looks like 16 faint blades rotating slowly.
The increadible thing about 3DS, is object motion blur is added to the image
after it renders the original, ie when the tail rotor (motion blurred) spins
behind view of the helicoptor, the blur is still rendered onto the frames!
It is not hidden by the helicoptor object! Maybe I`ve missed something, there
could be a setting somewhere, if so, it aint in the manual!
I`ll stick with Lightwave thank you very much.
Eagerly awaiting Lightwave on PC/Windows, as availability of this platform to
me at work is the only reason I use 3DS.
